On the grain of the fabric, you will cut a piece that measures 2” x (your head circumference + 1” for seam allowance). So for a 22” circumference, you would create a 2” x 23” band.
With a hot iron, fold and press 1/2” seam allowance on top and bottom of your band so that you have a finished 1” strip.
Unfold the ends of the band and with a sewing machine, sew the ends of the band together at 1/2” seam allowance. Press the seam open and refold the band to 1” and press again.
Next, you will sew (1/8″ from the edge) the band at the bottom edge of the crown of your hat. Place the seam at the center back of your hat. (I like to keep the slip stitches of each round at the back)
